Sheet Size: 7" x 16"; Image Size: 4 1/2" x 13 1/4" Perfect Water is a visual treat for any artist. Few however have captured so many elements in one small painting as Paul Sawyier had in this one. Mary Swigert rests in a canoe, unaided and without need of a paddle for security. She submerges her arm into the water and we feel the temperature, as cool and warm are continually mixing together. The reflections of the canoe and passenger are mirror like, another attribute of Perfect Water. The foliage in the trees comes to our eyes as the season of the Perfect Water because contained among the branches are the brilliant lime greens of Spring along with the warm reds of Autumn. In the mind of the artist, with Spring and Fall continually renewing themselves, this scene could last forever. Sometimes we fail to discern the Art of timelessness when we judge a painting merely for composition and color. The tranquility and sense of rest in Perfect Water are very apparent, and like a poet whose lines bring cheer to the weary, so too does Perfect Water offer visual peace for all time in a world which so desperately needs it. THE MAYME BULL COLLECTION This print is the fourth of a series to be published from originals given by Paul Sawyier to Benjamin's Great Aunt, Mayme Bull, and her parents Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Corbin Bull. |
