Sheet Size: 10 1/2" x 19 1/2"; Image Size: 8 1/2" x 17 3/4" This scene on Elkhorn Creek painted by Paul Sawyier in the early 1890's is so titled as this is what was handwritten on the back of the original watercolor. This peaceful and serene scene is typical of what Sawyier loved to paint as he spent much of his time on his beloved Elkhorn Creek. Even without being pre-named, the flat, shelving rocks and shallow bed of water confirm that this is the area that this gentle creek winds it's way to the forks to meet with North Elkhorn and become a part of Main Elkhorn's flow. This original was the property of Mr. and Mrs. Harry McChesney and was most likely selected by Mrs. McChesney, who was an excellent watercolor artist herself, and was probably chosen because of its detail and color application. |
